CES Opposes Term Limits Rent Control Threat
Coalition for Economic Survival (CES) executive director Larry Gross joined the group actively fighting the term limits Measure C that will appear on the March ballot last week.
Saying that a broad based coalition of West Hollywood groups and activists from the LGBT, Russian-speaking and business communities already opposed the measure, his group would as well.
Said Mr. Gross, “The measure is supported by a host of Republican activists and a number of people who have run for City Council many times but can't get elected.”
He noted that Measure C, which would limit city council terms to 12 years, “was put on the ballot with the help of the same tea-party people who passed Proposition 8, the proposition that stripped gays of the right to marry on California.”
The implementation of term limits in West Hollywood, said Mr. Gross, “would undercut the effectiveness of incumbents who made West Hollywood a rent control bastion.”
He said that the local West Hollywood/Beverly Hills Democratic Party Club and CES have joined together to oppose a City Council term limit measure on West Hollywood's March 5, 2013 ballot.
“West Hollywood voters have previously rejected term limits as undemocratic,” he said, and he expects them to do the same this time.
The Coalition for Economic Survival was instrumental in the establishment of West Hollywood in 1984.
